Pour Henry Perowne - neurochirurgien réputé, mari heueux, père comblé d'un musicien de blues et d'une poétesse - ce devait être un samedi comme les autres. Et cette réflexion profonde sur le hasard et le destin, les pouvoirs respectifs de la science et de l'art, la quête d'un sens qui résisterait à la mort, nous montre une fois de plus, après Expiation, un romancier parvenu à la plénitude de son talent.
